Properties are taxing …

Bedroom tax …

What will they think of next?  Purbeck District Council has recently been criticised for charging £1,000 ‘bedroom tax’ on home extensions.  Section 106 of the Town and Country Planning Act 1990 requires developers to contribute towards infrastructure, but households are now expected to pay, with the assumption that any extension is an extra bedroom.

Do you think there should be a bedroom standard (ie only applicable for houses with over 4 bedrooms)?

and now a tree tax …

A safety regime being drawn up by the British Standards Institute (BSI) means homeowners could face millions of pounds of ‘tax’ for inspection fees on the state of the trees growing in their gardens.

How does your garden grow?

The estimated mimimum cost of a tree inspection is £70.  The risk of being killed by a falling tree is estimated at 1:2,000,000. The standard would apply to trees growing anywhere near where the public has access, or within falling distance of man-made structures such as other properties.

Is this draft tree standard a ‘daft’ tree standard?  Comment please.

  1. I think we should start charging them about the nonsense they come up with

  2. I can not believe that we are about to be taxed for something else!!!

Why do we get penalized for improving our homes? Lets face it, its hard enough to make ends meet these days, and to have to pay yet more tax. Doesnt seem right to me!
