Chilli and wine support for Cancer Charity

Having concentrated on trying to get fit and failing miserably according to the scales and a recent fitness test, I decided at last to avert my lacklustre training efforts to concentrating on the true objective of the Ribbon Walk held on 14 June - raising funds for breast cancer.  However, everywhere I looked friends, relatives and mums in the playground were all engaging in similar events including walks, runs, cycle rides and coffee mornings to raise much needed cash for many different charities.  I therefore knew I had to do something different.

I came up with the idea of providing a simple supper for friends who would join me for some chilli and a glass of wine.  This idea proved popular because my friends are keen to support good causes, or they enjoy chewing the cud over fine wine and dining – I have obviously used editorial licence over this latter statement if my cooking is anything to go by!

But I think the truth is they like to do both - that is to support charity and to socialise with friends in the process.  As school mums from St John’s Horsham, we have all been touched by the ravages of breast cancer, as well as numerous other cancers, that has affected family and friends in the playground.  If then we can give something back albeit however small, we are keen to contribute and lend a hand and support to those touched by this illness.

I took part in the Ribbon Walk at Petworth Park, on 14 June 2008. It’s a bit of a slog to get people to sponsor but I was lucky to have very generous friends and family to support me.
I thought your idea to raise funds by inviting friends to your home for dinner was great and next time I do a sponsored event - I will do the same!

  2. What a great idea! It makes a nice change for people to be able to enjoy time together and participate in a worthwhile cause whilst socialising and creating a good memory in the process.

    Good luck with your fundraising.
