Decor Dilemmas!
I don’t know about you, but as the seasons begin to shift I always feel like a change in my lifestyle or surroundings. Although we’re still trying to hang on to summer as long as we can, the very few and far between balmy summer days we’ve had are fading fast. Children start a new year at school, parents breathe a sigh of a relief, and thoughts start to turn to autumn as the evenings begin to draw in.
For me, this heralds the tides of change. A fortnight ago, I spent the weekend painting the bedroom belonging to my eldest daughter (5 and 3 quarters!) a shade of Gentle Lavender. My youngest is next, with Sweet Pink! (when you are 2.5, pink is very important!)
But of course, mummy and daddy need a change too. Herein lies the problem. Whilst kitting out little girls’ bedrooms in shades of pink and lilac, fairies, butterflies and rosebuds is easy, and gratefully received by the recipients, fulfilling the decor ideals of both me and my husband, working with furniture we already have, is proving far from easy!
I tend to sway towards the fresh and crisp colour schemes, which compliment our white shaker furniture, although I feel it may be time for a change, whilst my other half is far more of a cosy, browns and bronzes kind of guy! Our bedroom make-over will be very much on a cosmetic level, a coat of paint, maybe a feature wall, and new bedlinen and curtains.
I have decided to spend a little time this weekend researching! This will entail visiting local showhomes at brand new homes developments for inspiration. It’s amazing the difference a coloured wall, or wallpaper in an alcove or on a chimney breast can make. I am thinking that maybe a fairly neutral colour scheme, with a splash of colour from some cushions, a throw or a rug, and some interesting lighting may be the way to go, and keep us both happy!
If you have any ideas for me, I’d love to hear them, objective inspiration is required! Or if you are looking for your own inspiration or great products, check out these links…
