Compulsory licensing of Estate Agents …

Sir Bryan Carsberg’s proposals met with concern

Should Estate Agents have to gain qualifications, and a licence in order to practice?

Sir Bryan’s report, commissioned by RICS, NAEA and ARLA, can be read at

In our opinion, since shrinking numbers of properties are coming onto the market due to the credit crunch, the market will sort itself out eventually and good Estate Agents will survive, and the bad will disappear overnight (if they haven’t already done so).

The extra cost of obtaining licences, qualifications etc. may in turn lead to an increase in commission rates - are we prepared to pay extra? Are you prepared to pay extra for compulsory licensing? …

One Response to “Compulsory licensing of Estate Agents …”

  1. Prices are constantly on the rise with no prospect of wages increasing. Is the government trying to create a scene of “survival of the fitest?” I think all of these added costs will create a big smile of bank managers faces with an indefinate increase in loans that will be needed be those wishing to buy homes….
